DILLON - Tired of the Summit County dating scene - meeting people in loud bars, going on blind dates, getting someone's number on the ski lift?
Cupid.com/PreDating is coming to the Dillon Dam Brewery for singles ages 26-39 at 7 p.m. Thursday with a possible alternative - speed dating.
Speed dating provides singles with a more efficient way to find a match by allowing participants to go on up to 12, six-minute dates in one evening. All of the women have a seat at the table, and the men go from woman to woman in order - like the musical chairs of dating. Cupid.com/PreDating also provides cards at each place setting with general questions for daters to ask each other in case nerves take over.
"I went to a (speed dating) event in Denver and thought it was one of the most fun dates I'd ever been on in my life," local Cupid.com/PreDating event coordinator Scott Gordon said. "A lot of the professionals up here are too busy and don't have time to hang out at the bars, or they don't want to meet someone that way anyway.
"Cupid.com/PreDating is a six-minute 'test-drive' without the stress or potential embarrassment of being rejected on the spot."
Gordon said the event can also be used as a business networking opportunity.
Dillon Dam Brewery bar manager Johnny Burnette thinks the brewery is the ideal place to have the event, because the bar is already a great place for local singles to meet.
"(Speed dating) is something different than your average poker night. It's a pretty fun way to spend the evening," he said. "Who knows? You could meet and marry a millionaire - or a ski bum."
The cost to attend is $39 per person, but with the coupon code DAM10, the cost is reduced to $29.
For more information and to register for Thursday's speed dating at the Dillon Dam Brewery, visit www.Cupid.com/PreDating.
Registration will also be available at the Dillon Dam brewery the day of the event, beginning at 6 p.m. Participants can still receive the discount at on-site registration by mentioning the coupon code.
The brewery plans on hosting another speed dating event on Wednesday, Oct. 19 for singles ages 29-42. If the event is successful, Gordon said the Dillon Dam Brewery is interested in possibly having speed dating every month.
