Questions From Other Singles Like You

Wondering about Speed Dating events or how Pre-Dating does them? Maybe just a relationship question in general? Some other people did as well and here are their questions to us.

If you have a question, simply email us at Questions@Pre-Dating.com and if selected for our next Newsletter you'll get a complimentary ticket to one of our events.

QUESTION #1:

Hi Pre-Dating,

I am a 57 year old man who is looking to meet women in their 30's or 40's, however, I see all of your event in my age group are 50+, what gives?

Answer from Pre-Dating:

Dear "Young At Heart",

As you can probably imagine, this is one of the most commonly asked questions, and yes, we offer special interest events from time to time which include "younger women / older men" and conversely "younger men / older women" and these events cover various age differences.

While many people say "age is just a number" at the same time, some people do have preferences relating to the age of those they date (both younger or older) and for a variety of reasons.

One thing some people don't know until they actually attend one of our events is that for most events more men tend to be at the upper end of the age range, while more women tend to be at the lower end of the age range. So if you saw we had an event for single professionals ages 49-59, then on average, most women would be closer to 49 while most men would be closer to 59. There are of course some women and men in the upper or lower part of the range respectively, but our statistics show men trend older while women trend lower within a posted age range for an event.

Lastly, while we do strive to ensure attendees are within the stated age range for an event, we cannot guarantee it and we do often allow an exception or two maximum (both under or over an age range). It's up to your local Event Coordinator (EC) so be sure to contact your EC, let he or she know you are a bit outside the stated age range and if you can attend. If there are not already other people of your gender on the registration list that are outside the age range, then odds are it may be fine.

So what does this mean to Mr. Young At Heart? It means if you don't see a special event for younger women / older men, you should still consider attending an event based on what we've stated in our answer to you plus you can always email your EC to see if you can squeeze into an event you are slightly outside the age range of.

QUESTION #2:

Hi Pre-Dating,

I have attended your events in the past, and I have to say, they are GREAT fun, however, is 6 minutes really enough time? Sometimes I feel rushed.

Answer from Pre-Dating

Dear "Rushed",

Have you ever been on an amazing date and you both cannot seem to get enough of each other and you end up ticking off the waiters at the restaurant because it is after hours and you both are not done talking yet (Yea, we've all done it!)? Or, maybe a horrible date, and it feels like the time goes by at a snails pace?

This is why we limit the time to 6 minutes! Sometimes the time flies, but other times you feel like you are pulling teeth to just a response from the other party.

Scientifically, it takes 30 seconds for there to be a sexual attraction, for the remaining 5 minutes and 30 seconds, you may find that the person is not only attractive but has a WONDERFUL personality to boot! Or not, but that's why we like to limit the time to 6- minutes! NEXT!

One of the reasons my newest book, Attracting Lasting Love: Breaking Free of the 7 Barriers that Keep You Single, has become a #1 best-seller on Amazon is because in the book I present a new and radical way of dating and relating, something I call, The Dating Manifesto.

The Dating Manifesto is a call to change the culture of dating. It's a challenge to stop playing games and date consciously. So in The Dating Manifesto, I describe 7 commitments of conscious dating. And as I said, they're radical. But when you align your life with the 7 commitments, magic happens. Drama ends and love blooms. The Dating Manifesto is a blueprint for conscious dating and they will help you attract a healthy, lasting relationship.

I'm going to share one of the 7 commitments in each of the next seven newsletters. (If you miss any of them, email me at roy@coachingwithroy.com and I'll send them to you.)

Now, in order to make this fun, I'm not only going to present each of the 7 conscious commitments, but I'm also going share their evil twins, or their opposites. Unfortunately, these counter-commitments describe "the game," how most people normally date. Choosing the conscious commitment over its "evil twin" is the key to enjoying your dating experience and attracting lasting love.

So far, we've discussed Responsibility, Curiosity, Authenticity, Allies, Enough and Source. The 7th commitment in The Dating Manifesto is Story. Here's how I describe it.

CONSCIOUS COMMITMENT #7: Story

"My story is just a story." I commit to seeing that the opposite of my story is as true, or truer, than my original story. I recognize that I interpret the world around me and give my stories meaning.

Now, here's its "evil twin." This is how most people date …

COUNTER-COMMITMENT #7: Reality

"My story is not a story. It's reality." I commit to believing that my stories, and the meaning I give them, are true. I commit to insisting that others agree with my stories. I commit to interpreting events as "proof" that my stories are, indeed, true.

"All the good ones are taken or gay." "Men want younger women." "If a person's over 40 and never been married they have commitment issues." "Men are intimidated by strong women." On and on we go, telling stories. We do it all the time. Clients often tell me, "It's impossible for a woman in her 50's to find a good man." When I say that's just a story, they insist on it being true. Then I say, "Did you know my wife met me when she was in her 50's?" Silence.

The most dangerous and self-sabotaging thing a single person can do is to think their stories are true. It not only shapes your attitudes and actions, but more importantly, stories become self-fulfilling prophecies. If a strong woman thinks she intimidates men, she'll interpret a man's behavior as being proof that her story is true. "See! He didn't ask for a second date because I'm intimidating!", when, in fact, it had nothing to do with that.

Here's your 4-part homework assignment (but don't worry, there's no math). [1] Create a written list of your stories about yourself, men, women, dating and relationships. [2] Write down the exact opposite of your story. (For example, "All the good ones are taken or gay," becomes, "There is an abundance of quality, available partners.") [3] Close your eyes and ask yourself the following question until your heart opens: "Am I willing to believe that the opposite of my story is as true, or even truer, than my original story?" [4] Open your eyes and notice how the world has changed. Low and beyond: the earth isn't flat after all.

If your love life is not satisfying, then take advantage of The Attracting Lasting Love Complimentary Coaching Session™. It's a 30-minute free conversation where I help you discover the primary issue that's keeping you single and what to do about it.
